ABOUT ME
Although I come from a family of artists, I had not pursued painting until moving to Santa Rosa, CA: the perfect spot to be inspired by gardens, vineyards and the countryside. I started painting for friends and family, until receiving multiple requests for custom work. Painting has become my passion. My artwork encompasses a variety of subjects: landscapes, portraits, and still life. I have shown artwork/paintings in galleries, won watercolor competitions, and exhibited in galleries and shows in Northern California. Recently I was honored to have a showing of 35+ pieces on exhibit at the Laguna de Santa Rosa Environmental Center, Sept 1, 2020 through Sept 1, 2021. |
The Laguna Collection focused on the line, shape and style of the physical property and environs.
Here's the background: A short while ago I listened as an art show juror was asked how she determined the best of show, first place, 2nd place etc. when she's curating a show. She responded that the first thing she did was to exclude all pictures of barns and old trucks because they were over utilized. She had chosen my painting to be included that show and it was a picture of an old truck ....I obviously was out of the running for any award. My takeaway is that in this show you will hopefully see interesting elements or views of the barn, rather than the entire structure. View the Laguna Collection. for the 2016 and 2017 Bodega Bay Fish Festivals and The Woodlands Wildflower Festival My interpretation of the theme "A Wish for Fish" was the judge's choice for the posters, all advertising, and t-shirts for the 2017 Bodega Bay Fish Fest. The 2016 theme was "Give Fish A Chance". and my entry was again selected. Find them on the BBFishFest website. Also pictured below is my winning entry for the Woodlands Wildflower Festival.

Artwork on hand-turned bowls:
My husband Mike is a skilled woodturner, and I have fun embellishing some of his wooden bowls, wine stoppers and platters. Please scroll down this page to view a few examples. Mike's bowls can be seen/purchased at www.mikesooley.com, or at New West Knifeworks, St. Helena, CA.
